VETERAN PROJECT

Few experience war. Those who do experience war are affected forever. According to the 2012 data reported by The Department of Veterans Affairs, 22 veterans a day commit suicide (1 every 65 minutes) in the United States. This fact demonstrates the personal impact of war. In this series of paintings and sculpture titled Veteran, I was examining the personal sadness this suicide data created in me as a Vietnam veteran. There is clearly a suicide crisis in the veteran community that requires us to examine the human cost and treatment for veterans.

The challenge of this project was to create these personal sculpture and paintings without compromising the integrity of the experience for fellow veterans.

My hope was that this work would add images to the broad discussion of veteran specific treatment on many levels.
